The fuel-cell technology hasn’t yet been developed to the level where any layman can use it on a day-to-day basis, therefore, when we hear of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle being powered by hydrogen, it does come across as a pleasant surprise. Dubbed the ION Tiger UAV, and the brainchild of the Office of Naval Research, this is more of an experimental UAV that aims at using eco-friendly technology thus bringing into use a 500watt fuel cell. The results so far have been heartening as the ION Tiger has high power density in a compressed package, making it literally silent. The heat generation is very low, making it successful against infrared tracings. The way the technology has been used, and the results that have been there thus far, promise an adventurous future for the admirers of UAVs and the ecology at the same time.
