A pendent like camera in the neck records your entire life
I say, images are the best store of memories; they definitely help us improve long-term recall. If you consider it true as well, then get geared for a new type of a camera that’ll click every moment of our lives and help build an e-memory, i.e. an imagery archive of your entire life. Microsoft’s researcher Gordon Bell has been a consistent user of the camera. Carrying it just everywhere to record everything he does, thus, electronically recording as much of his life as possible.
Developed as the SenseCam by Microsoft, now ViconRevue, the camera can be worn around the neck, to shoot images every 30 seconds. In its 1GB of capacity the camera can easily fit about 30,000 images. Equipped with an accelerometer, light sensors and infrared sensor the camera is good to capture images in every changing environment and temperature, interestingly the wearer doesn’t need to do anything.
Vicon an UK based firm has licensed the technology for the SenseCam from Microsoft and intends to put it into large-scale production. Vicon believes their version of the camera to cost about £500 (approx. $820. Aimed at researchers initially the camera will go on sale in the next few months. A consumer version should be released in 2010.
