So you had been wanting a robot all for yourself but you can’t afford one? Now, robot enthusiast, JayHay, has a solution for you. And it won’t leave a huge gap in your wallet, either. JayHay instructs you on how to make your very own mini-robot, and what’s more, your robot will be eco-friendly since it can be made completely from recycled parts. The robot detects collisions that are about to happen and the two motors are required from an old-line follower. All you need is a sphere for the body, some transistors and batteries for power, and a Microchip 12F675 for the brain, and that’s about it! This creation, at just over 2cms in size, has whiskers that can detect obstacles, and is cleverly rigged with two motors that alternatively turn on and off, deciding on the direction of movement of the robot. The robot takes just four hours to be built and can be done easily enough by anyone, except for some nifty soldering work involved. Software was written using the JAL language. The only problem currently, is that JayHay has not figured out how to get rid of the robots ‘umbilical cord’, connecting it to the computer for a constant supply of power.
