Hard disks are not really known for taking shocks and bumps in their stride and we have been seeing a lot of exasperated computer user struggle with data loss due to a hard disk tumble. LaCie Electronics have been making portable hard disks to take the rough and tumble that everyday life can throw at them. And now, they have just decided to up the capacity of their rugged hard disks by unveiling a portable hard disk that comes with a nice, big capacity of 500 GB in the latest of the LaCie Rugged Hard Disk series. A Hitachi hard drive sits under the aluminum covered LaCie which has a rubber bumper all around to take the shocks and bumps. This hard disk supports both the BUS and USB 2.0 connectivity options and also is available in either a FireWire 400 or a FireWire 800 version. You also get a back up driver software in this hard disk which comes preloaded with the drive set up utility. To buy the LaCie Rugged Hard Disk, expect to pay anything between $300 to $400.
