Heathrow, one of the oldest and busiest airports in the world is now becoming the first airport to embrace a new kind of tracking system that will enable air traveler real-time locating of cars at the large airport parking area.
Developed by Siemens, the tracking gadget comes with a sophisticated scanner, infrared cameras, and a 32in screen displaying information a 3-D map. It will simply scan the number plates of the cars as they get into the parking area and print out a ticket providing all the details of the vehicle.
Heathrow will introduce the new system in its 3,800-space short-term car park at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal Five, which will be inaugurated in March 2008. The new system will dramatically improve the parking habits of the travelers.
As per the new system, when a car enters into the parking area, a number plate recognition machine automatically reads all the vital details of the vehicle and prints them in a ticket. The travelers simple need to enter their tickets into a machine on their return and get information about the whereabouts of their cars in the parking area.
