65-inch digital posters have been introduced at the Tokyo station on a test basis. East Japan Railway Company and the East Japan Marketing and Communications Inc have joined in hands in undertaking this project, which would be in effect from July 14 to September 30, 5 am to 12 am. Sharp Corp’s PN655R LCD screens are being used in the digital signage experiment, which aims to understand the effects of still image ad posters on people. The strategy involves the participation of six firms and every minute, the images on the screen would be changed. The behaviour of the audience and other such data are delivered wirelessly and uses one of the five columns in HSDPA technology. The data is then forwarded to set top boxes in the other 4 columns. The 10 LCDs are erected at busy places in the station and especially places with a low ceiling. With a display power rate of 560W, they look brighter than ordinary film posters and might help in attracting consumers’ audience. Though it measures 30 cm right now, the experimenters hope to get the thickness reduced in the future.
