Hitachi is still working on their hardware. They are currently moving towards making a 5TB HDD which they predict will be ready by 2010. Considering that most other hardware devices in the computer almost start to limit the amount of space they can work with, Hitachi are pushing ahead and moving over these boundaries. How they do it is they are working with the ‘current perpendicular-to-the-plane giant magnetoresistance’ (CPP-GMR). This allows data density to go above one TB/sq in. This new HDD will actually rival that of the human brain which can, under their calculations, store up to 10TB of data. So just think, by 2010 all your thoughts and memories can be stored onto 2 of these 5TB HDDs. If only we could find something to bridge to connection to store all our thoughts....
