The next 3G iPhone could have video chat. This, ofcourse if Digg founder Kevin Rose’s statement regarding the 3G iPhone is to be believed. Rose in an earlier podcast said that the new 3G iPhone will feature two camera’s, one at front and one behind. This comes amidst skepticism of Rose’s previous comments about the 1st generation iPhone, many of which turned out to be a damp squib. Rose also said that Apple is discouraging add on’s from other developers because they want to promote their own videochat software, the iChat. The much awaited 3G iPhone should obviously be able to support very high data speeds for seamless videochat which is a major issue that Apple needs to iron out. Currently video chat is mainly hampered by slow networks rather than hardware limitations.
And If at all this news is true, what remains to be seen is how Apple’s engineers and designers manage to squeeze in the extra front camera in the already packed iPhone without making it look tacky. the camera also could do with some better resolution than the current iPhone’s camera which doesn’t really match upto sony cybershot standards. Knowing Apple and it’s out-of-the-box thinking, expect it to pull out another trick from it’s innovation factory and make the next generation iPhone a style icon, camera or no camera.
