3D printers created by Victoria University students

Posted By: Asmita Prasad | Jul 4 2008

The brainchild of 3rd year Industrial Design students at Victoria University, the 3D printer heralds the advent of the future in the truest sense. Prototypes of the 3D printers were used to create some of the most stunning 3D models. The printers were created by the students as a part of a challenge that asked them to design and produce a “green” 3D printer in 4 weeks with a limited budget.

Though the challenge seems nearly impossible to be completed with the given boundaries, some very innovative thinking on part of the students resulted in them using waste material and repurposing it into new objects. By using waste paper from generated by a bank, the students created the ‘Stack’ and a ‘Steampunk’ sewing machine that could create layered forms based on an interpretation of the banks statistical data.
