Introduction of the Zune was very much to kill the mammoth iPod market and Apple apparently making a hell lot of profit even after reducing price. So obviously, Microsoft had to cut down its price to compete the Apple. Thus the final price is leaked out to be the $229.99.
Last time when Microsoft planed price it was $289.99 to undercut the iPod by $10. And this time again it has to undercut because of apple’s fall of $249.
