100% Wooden Bicycle: Innovative or Moronic?

Posted By: Gagandeep Sharma | Jan 28 2008

Do I root for innovation? Hell yes! But sometimes along comes a creation that just leaves me dumbfounded. This Wooden Bicycle is one such thing. I’m at loss whether to be laugh (in delight) or cry (in horror) at this. The creator of this cent percent wooden bike is one Marco Facciola, a 16-year-old high school student. His desire to complete a ‘personal project’ as a part of his baccalaureate program led to this completely functional wooden bike (which by the way is inspired by a similar creation of his grandpa). No metal here, not even in the chain and gearing; only wood and glue. The detailing that has gone into this project is amazing.

Now the reason why I’m appalled at this creation. I believe we could do with a lot less of these creations drawing on already depleting forests (aka wood). Now this might seem stretching the idea a bit too far but I stand by it. A bunch of these moronic creations and we’ll be quite set to reverse the global warming tide (?). Put this into mass production and head for an early exit, I rest my case!
