$100 laptop shuns hand crank, ties strings
Apparently, the hand crank OLPC too gratified the budding geeks in the developing world, with no strings attached, as is doing this new string-powered one; it hardly matters when the cost is just $100 and the machine actually performs, isn't it.

Yes, the $100 laptop has shunned the hand crank and is now powered by a small, quiet, and easy to use generator, in fact much better than the hand crank, which can be kicked off by a readily available string.
The laptop, festooned with a 500MHz processor and 500MB of flash memory, requires around 20 watts of energy every 10 minutes and the generator is sufficient to produce the same. However, long-life batteries would have shown MIT's far-sightedness, however, that too would follow soon, till then keep pulling the string.
