How to enable remote desktop connection windows xp?


Me and my friend were trying to connection our computers through remote connection. We are connected to the internet. There is no motive here but we are just trying to learn how to use it. We tried it ourselves and even read the windows help on the same topic but We haven't been successful with that. We are using XP on both the computers. Please help me how to enable remote desktop connection windows xp?

Remote desktop allows you to access computer from a remote location. The following tutorial explains you how to connect from one window computer to another. Keep in mind that to enable remote desktop feature you must have administrator rights on your host computer. To enable remote desktop connection in XP follow these given instructions.

  1. First click on Start button at left bottom corner.
  2. Right click on the My Computer option and go to Properties probably as last option.
  3. Click on the tab named Remote.
  4. Under the option Remote Desktop (the bottom section), check the box labelled as Allow users to connect remotely to this computer. Now click apply and Ok.


There is one feature of windows that is Windows Firewall. If you are using Windows XP service pack 2, you make sure that your Remote Desktop is not blocked by the Windows Firewall. Here is procedure to Allows Windows Firewall to enable Remote Desktop.

· Click on start button and Go to Control Panel Option.

· Open the Windows Firewall in the Control Panel. If you don’t want Firewall in list, make sure that you are looking in Classical view.

· On the tab labelled as Exception make sure that the Remote Desktop is checked.

· On the tab labelled as Advanced you select the option Local Area Connection and click on settings button.

· The new window is opened as Advanced Settings make sure that Remote Desktop is checked on this window.
