Electrolux ICE makes cooking interactive and fun for amateurs

The ICE is a new kitchen appliance created by Julen Pejenaute that seeks to make the cooking process more interactive for home cooks. The device can be mounted above the kitchen island or dining table. When ingredients and food items are placed on the surface below the ICE, it scans them and projects an interactive touch enabled menu around them. These menus can be interacted with to view suggested recipes that can be created using a combination of the given ingredients.

A top ten finalist entry at the 2012 Electrolux Design Lab, the ICE is also designed to allow users to quickly create a shopping list if certain ingredients are missing from a chosen recipe. The basic idea behind the product is to allow amateur cooks the freedom to enjoy the process of cooking instead of worrying about what ingredients are required for a certain recipe. Since it is designed to make suggestions based on the foods that are available in the user’s home, the device also helps people minimize food wastage.

The unique device also provides users with a history of labeled foods like wines which makes it educational and fun as well. With its clever combination of recipe database, mood lighting and lamp, the ICE creates a most unique ambience in which one can enjoy cooking and socializing
