How to download vmware tools and install windows on virtual machine?

I was thinking of booting windows xp in my linux. I know about virtual machine. So if I have linux booted up I can start another virtual computer with the help of vmware tools and also install a copy of windows xp on it. I could have installed it on the boot time but I m not intrested in that I would like to run windows on a virtual PC. I have to do this so that I can learn to run virtual machines on a computer. So where can I download vmware tools. And also post guidelines how to install a operating system on a virtual machine using vmware?

I understand how important it is for you to install VMware Tools in the guest operating system. As per my personal experience, I can tell you that with the VMware Tools SVGA driver installed, workstation supports significantly faster graphics performance. Moreover, the VMware Tools package provides support, which is required for shared folders and also fordrag and drop operations. As you want to install an operating system, using VMwaretools in a virtual machine, I would share with you the proper steps of thisprocedure:

1 First power on the virtual machine.

2 Prepare your virtual machine to install theVMware tools. The way to do it is, choose File > Install VMware tools

Therest of steps take place inside the virtual machine automatically.

3 Load CD9660.NSS driver so the CD-ROM devicemounts the ISO image as a level. In the system console, then type LOAD CD9660.NSS

4Once the driver finishes loading, you can begin with installing VMware tools.Type vmwtools:setup.ncf, in the system console.

5 Finally, restart theguest operating system, and type restart server, in the system console.
