Step 1

Close all programs using the iSight camera to turn off. Programs like Photo Booth and some VOIP software turns off the camera in the boot. Some programs like iChat, turn offthe camera when the active window is closed, even if the program is still running. Thegreen LED next to the iSight lens off when not in use to indicate it has been disabled.

Step 2

Move activation files needed for QuickTime iSight camera to disable its use. Open the System Library QuickTime folder. QuickTimeUSBVDCDigitizer.component Drag the fileto another location in the hard disk. As long as the file is not in the QuickTime folder, programs can not access the iSight camera to use. To re-enable the device, replace the file in its original location.

Step 3

Using a script to disable the iSight camera, without moving the files manually. These scripts are available on websites such as software and TechSlaves JAMF. Scripts go in the Library Scripts folder in the current user. Use the OSX AppleScript utility to run a script.
