How do I go about disabling the auto login XP registry?

I have turned on the automatic logon in Windows XP based on the laptop. A friend of mine referred the auto login XP registry to me but did not tell me how to switch it off and neither did I think I would have to. I then read somewhere that this feature can pose a great security risk, as I have also configured Windows XP to automatically login due to this reason I want to cancel the auto-logon. So tell me how to disable auto logon xp registry? Would you consider it a threat by any chance?

Hi,

Great to know that you have some knowledge about turning on the auto login XP registry. Luckily, I can help you out with turning it off. It is not a very tough task. It is as simple as turning it of. However, it could prove risky because it enables other users to use your PC pr laptop freely without being asked for a password. It is very convenient though, but it could allow your data to be visible to anybody who logs on after you.

Steps to disable auto loginXP registry:

Technique 1

Step 1: follow the step 1 & 2 from the above(turn on automatic logon).

Step 2: Tick check box, and then click Apply.

Technique 2

Step 1: open Run (win logo +R)

Step 2: Type rundll32 netplwiz.dll,ClearAutoLogon

Step 3: ok

Technique 3

Step 1: Open run and type regedit. This will display Registry Editor.

Step 2: Follow the path “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-Software- Microsoft- WindowsNT - CurrentVersion - Winlogon”.

Note :Replace - by

Step 3: Erase the DefaultPassword entry.

Step 4: Open AutoAdminLogon, Enter 0 in the Value, and then click OK.

Hope this bit of information helped.
