Previously, we have covered a wealth of conceptions with the Star Wars theme here on GizmoWatch. But this time, we have a heartfelt design for the Trekkies too. The contraption in question is a custom designed Star Trek Tricorder PC, contrived by none other than Michael Okuda himself. In case your fuzzy mind does not recognize him, he was the true graphic designer of a number of high-tech control facades seen in the earlier Star Trek movies and television shows.

Well, the master is back once again in the sci-fi scheme of things, with his fascinatingly detailed Star Trek themed personal computer. The device was found in eBay, obviously up for grabs, for a determined price of $8,000. But before we delve into the specifications, the potential customers should know something about the computer's exalted worth.
Well, in a twist of adroit accomplishments, there were actually three Star Trek computers created by Okuda. One of them went to a sweepstakes winner at this year's San Diego Comic-Con; while the other one was specifically contrived for none other than former Star Trek writer David Gerrold. The third one is obviously strutting its stuff in the online auction at eBay, with a sweet price tag of $8000.
Coming to the deft design element, as the name suggests, the custom creation was inspired by Star Trek's Tricorder. In case some you are wondering as to what that means; the Tricorder (in Star Trek universe) is a bantam handheld device for various highfalutin functions from sensor scanning to data recording. The computer maintains that same level of futuristic vibe, with painstaking augmentations on the part of the designers. According to sources, system modding shop MNPCTech added a slew of modifications to an original LanCool PC-K58 case. The team incorporated around 25 new components, which in turn takes the total weight of the contraption over 70 pounds.
But do not be discouraged by the boisterous weight, as the computer does pack a mighty punch when it boils down to hardcore specs. The robust system is powered by an Intel Core i7-2600k (clocked at 3.4Ghz speed), while its memory speaks of a Corsair Dominator 8GB DD3-1600 RAM, with a combined set up of 2TB Hitachi Deckstar 7200RPM and an additional 120 GB of OCZ Vertex 3 Solid State Hard Drive. And if you thought that was insanely gratifying, the machine has something to satiate your high end gaming needs too, with an infused Evga GeForce GTX 580.
Other specs include an Asus P8Z68V PRO motherboard supplemented by a 850 CORSAIR HX-850 power supply unit and a Cooler Master Hyper 212+r. On the hardware front, the designer has integrated many of the user oriented features like a Blue-Ray support for high definition viewing pleasure, along with the potent sound effects emanated from X-FI Fatality Edition of Creative Soundblaster cards.
So, at the end of it, there is no doubt that the conception is flourishingly worthy of being associated with the exalted Star Trek. The only question remains, are you bravely geeky enough to slap $8,000 worth of greenbacks for this powerhouse of a device?
