Is it better to create an app for the iPhone or IPad?

I am building the first true mCommerce application for wine. The app is designed to be highly visual which will allow the user to enter winemaker’s world through its images and stories. But even do I have a brilliant concept in my mind I am facing problems in deciding if the first version should be designed for the iPhone or for the iPad. I want to make it for iPad so that I take the advantage of its extra large screen. But I want to know if anyone has any kind of experience in launching an app for iPad or iPhone? Does it really make any difference?

There are two things associated with it. One is money and the other is popularity. If look at the current market and both of these things, then apple mobile phone seems to be taking a mark as , iPad version has different GUI and some more functionality then iPhone mobile phone and is bit difficult and less famous. But most of these applications are being made for both iPhone and iPad. All iPad users who have already got your free or paid App to their iPhone and iPod Touch will be able to download all iPhone Apps – only if you will update your binary submission to the App store to make iPhone App compatible with iPad.
