How to configure vmware network adapter?

VMWARE Workstation is powerful software for running virtual machines on to your computer. It supports almost all the Operating systems for example: Ubuntu, Gnome, Backtrack (Linux operating systems) and WINDOWS.

To get started with Networking on your virtual machine, start the VMware workstation.

Go to Edit >Virtual Network Editor.

Select the VMnet0>VMnet information>select the option for bridges (usually the first option)> and select the appropriate network adapter.

Select VMnet8>VMnet information>select the option for NAT (shared host’s IP address with VM’s)

Click on apply and exit the Virtual Network Editor

Now select the tab of your operating system. In the selected tab window there will be a tab named “devices”. Click on it.

You will be able to see an option in the “Devices” tab called network adapter.

Double click on that option to open the virtual machine settings window. Make sure that the network adapter option is selected in the window. On the right hand side of the window will be available a few configuration option for the network adapter.

Click on the radio button for Bridged: connected directly to the physical network.

You can also select NAT: used to share the host’s IP address OR Custom: specific Virtual Network according to your requirements.

Click on ok and start your virtual machine. You will be ready for networking over your virtual machine.

If any problems arise check for the compatibility of your network adapter with VMware workstation.
