Could you tell me what are client server operating systems?

I’m doing part time course of computer networking and administration. I have some books but they all are thick enough and I have decided to quit for few days before classes commence. I want to take some general idea about the Client server OS from you. Could you tell me what are client server operating systems? Also tell me about the facilities required by the operating system installed on a client computer to enable it to work in client server mode. What is the difference between client os and server os? Please help me out.

So we are looking to move to a client-server model. You want to take the evidence that are speedly scattered on the hard drives of PCs and office management in a one directory, accessible at any time from any PC in the office. Maybe you want to get your own Internet domain name and has a Web site that hosts local, or build an intranet for staffinformation and communication. Maybe you just want to take your single DSL connection, and provide secure access net for everyone in the office.

If you are running a small business and have more than two or three computers in the office, it's time to start looking at setting up a server. One of his first considerations is theserver operating system (OS) for use.

What is a server operating system? (Back to index)

Server operating systems are designed from scratch to provide platforms for multiple users, often business-critical network applications. As such, the focus of operating systems tends to be the security, stability and cooperation, rather than the user interface.

Server operating systems provide a platform for multi-user, and most come equipped with a lot of common server applications such as Web servers, e-mail agents and terminal services.
