There are robots and cops and RoboCops. Now, if we have to categorize the above pictured eccentric conception from China, we would admit that it's quite a difficult task. However, as far as functionality is concerned, this 2 meter (6.56 ft) tall statuesque contraption clad in cold, black armor is actually a police oriented device for literally keeping a watch on street crimes.

Spread throughout the city streets of Kunming, the interior circuitry of Chinese 'RoboCop' is housed with cables and camera whose feed is directly accessible by neighboring police stations. So, once the 20,000 yuan ($3170) bot is made stationary on the street, it can efficiently monitor the adverse scenarios in place of real life policemen.
Moreover, the function is not just limited to surveillance. There is a cute red button on the belly part of the robot for civilians to directly call 110 (Chinese equivalent to 911). The button also turns on an autonomous alarm system, complimenting the emergency call.
Now, from the perspective of practicality, criminals can just steer clear of these black sentinels placed all over the city. However, preventing crimes in some cases are more effective than catching criminals. And, this is where the contraption can come in handy with impressive touted figures of 68.8 percent reduction of crime in Kunming.
