So far, we have witnessed an extensive roster of strapping, sturdy wearable watches from Casio. But, the newest wrinkle may seriously throw a curve over many out there. Pretty interestingly, Casio has finally plunged into the mobile devices segment by removing the sheath of their latest ultra-hardcore Android G-Shock smartphone. Sounds surprising, doesn't it? Well, it really does!

Designed for consumers who need to withstand tough conditions, the super rugged smartphone quite meticulously puts a lid on their concerns for phone damages. Ostensibly imbued with all the essential G-Shock DNA, the mobile phone comes equipped with neat trimmings and resistance to shock and dust. Quite a lot advanced than G’Zone models from Casio, the phone most importantly carries the ‘G-Shock’ branding – the company’s ultra-popular wristwatch lineup.
Though presently a prototype, the latest addition to Casio’s cradle of feature-rich solution has been designed to be shock resistant up to 10 feet, pressure resistant up to 1.0 bar and water resistant up to 1.0 bar. Users need not be on pins and needles if they mistakenly happen to drop it from high into the watery depths. Nevertheless, as far as the well-built fabrication is concerned, the unit will be featuring a metal back casing and a reinforced glass front.
The rest of the structure, on the other hand, is made using plastic with resin around the edges to keep users bumping. Most probably, Casio will embed a Gorilla Glass up there but that’s not completely free from a doubt. However, the exigency for capturing pictures in good quality and sharpness is well taken care of through the inclusion of an efficient camera on the rear. There will also be a flash to enhance the photography experience for users out there.
Besides all these, if there’s anything else which has been making waves about the ultra-hardcore G-Shock, then it has to be Android OS. If tittle-tattles are to be believed, the smartphone will incorporate the firm foundation of Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. Well, we really are crossing our fingers for that integration.
The tough device boasts of a signature form factor and even comes equipped with a few numbers which users will be enabled to benefit from during emergencies. Touted to be ‘tough as nails’, the new Casio handset furthermore endows an appearance that bears resemblance to wearable watches. As far as the touchscreen user interface is concerned, it might be a bit too early to pass any judgement.
The hardware specification list too remains well under the wraps. Believed to be a significant step-up from Casio’s G’Zone which really couldn’t pull off well in intriguing users, the mobile device was even displayed during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.
The new ultra-hardcore Android G-Shock Smartphone by Casio is yet to receive an official word on its price point and availability. Let’s just wait and watch!
