How to build your own server?

I have a computer and I want to build my home server. I want it to use for running website, collect and send e-mail messages and store OpenID credentials and serve music around the home. But I do not have any idea regarding how to build your own server and the things required for it. If someone has any experience with this please tell me also ……a quick reply will be appreciated …..thanks in advance

Although the procedure is bit difficult but there is typical procedure which I think if you follow, then you will be able to do it easily. You just need to install any kind of version on your computer or preferably if you can install red hat version, which allows you to visually configure your server. You will also be able to choosing which desktop graphical user interface you would like to use. The wizard walks you through all of the network and security configurations. Then you have to download some free software like Apache HTTP Server, PHP, and MySQL. They are open source and are free to download. They are really necessary for the world press. Then you have to install WHM, this is the software which will allow you standard Linux-based web hosting control panel that easily allows you to perform standard website and server configuration tasks with a graphical user interface. These are some primary things you should have while connecting your server to internet. For more information you can log on to ehow, in this web site you will see a video based solutions of various problems.
