A fresh Apple gadget comprising a big 5-inch Retina Display is rumored to come out in 2013. The Japanese tech blog Macotakara has initiated the rumor. Referring to a Chinese LCD supplier, the blog claims that Apple is reportedly working on a large iPhone-like gadget. The China OEM has received a contract from Apple to build 5-inch Retina Display panels with an impressive resolution of 1600 x 960 or 1280 x 960 pixels.

No other details of the possible 5-inch gadget are made available by the Japanese blog, which has a mixed track record in Apple predictions. Indeed, as all of us know, Apple is largely requested by its fans to launch both a large screen iPhone and a small screen iPad. The 2012 iPhone upgrade is also aspired to a get a bit larger display.
However, a 5-inch screen is bigger than what is expected by the geeks. A 5-inch screen means that it will be a ‘phablet,’ which is in between a tablet and smartphone. Is Apple going to launch a rival to Samsung Galaxy Note? There is little chance that Apple will go on to roll out a phablet, which hasn’t been a highly user friendly gadget.
Anyway, the rumor talks about a 5-inch inventive gadget, whose screen resolution is also a bit weird. A screen with either 1600 x 960 or 1280 x 960 resolution means that app developers will be having difficulty with their apps. No App Store apps for the 3.5-inch iPhone or the 9.7-inch iPad will support a 5-inch (1600 x 960 or 1280 x 960) display, analysts say.
