Which one is better Android or Symbian?

I have a Nokia X6 (Symbian S60 v5) and am considering moving to either an Android phone, probably a Motorola Milestone/Droid. My priorities are a good battery life, a good push email system via imap idle, good PIM and sync to google calendar and maybe RememberTheMilk for tasks. I don't care about facebook, myspace, etc.

Symbian is almost dead now because Nokia (Which was the pioneer as far as Symbian is concerned) has also decided to move to Microsoft Windows as a platform. I would highly recommend Android because of the adoption levels with hardware manufacturers and the regular updates. Android is almost as good as iOS when it comes to features and its way cheapers than what an iPhone or Windows phone would cost.

Android is an operating system for mobile devices like smartphones, tablet computers that is based on linux os. Symbian is also a similar os that is meant for smartphones alone. These two os have been compared below on the following criterias-

Pushmail system via imap idle- the google developed android os has a built-in google client which uses google sync inorder to push mail. There is no direct support for the imap idle push mail application. However, on the other hand, mobiles using symbianS60 os, enjoy imap idle support functionality with it’s built-in client. Hence, in push mail using imap idle, symbianS60 ranks ahead of the android os.

Better sync to google calendar- both the android as well as symbian os have a decent calendar application pre loaded in them. However, being the developer of the os, google made sure that no other mobile os can have a better sync with google calendar other than it’s own brain child, the android. Hence very obviously, among the two, android phones have a better sync to google calendar.

Better battery life- it can be expected that a phone using the symbian os will be having a much better battery life than the one using android os. A symbian os has a better ram mapping than android os and hence it is faster and has a better battery life.

Better use of “Remember the milk “ task- the popular to-do list that you can install anywhere from your phone to oyur pc, is used only in android os phones. Hence no question of symbian enabling better usage of the list. It is not even supported by symbian!
