Amazon to "rekindle" its ebook reader, this time with a front-lit unit

We heard a few days back about Nook offering a new feature, named “GlowLight” that would let you read your favorite novel beside your wife even if she turns off the lights and dozes into the unfathomable world of dreams. Amazon looks a little shy to be second in this category of ebook readers but will soon be launching a similar product with a front-lit display, a tip coming from an Amazon insider. If lucky, it wouldn't be long and you might see one of them in the stores as soon as next month itself. The new technology is expected to be rendered to the 3G as well as Wi-Fi versions.

What remains more interesting to know is whether or not Amazon will increase the price of its e-reader in this new version. We recently saw Apple rebooting its iPad with some impressive improvements without any price hike. What keeps Amazon in good stead is its market leader position and it being able to sell a significantly large number of these units. It will continue to partner with E Ink that has provided cutting edge technology in this field and are also partners with the Barnes and Nobles.

Meanwhile, Amazon is also looking to revamp its tablet Fire. The tablet too might come with front-lit display with the size upscaled from 7-inches to 8.9-inches. The research is also going on in the field of color e-readers, though the technology might take significant time to hit the stores. It would be interesting to know how long the new Kindle can serve you while you exhaust its battery thanks to its front-lit display.
