AfterShokz’s headphones bring you music without blowing up earbuds

AfterShokz’s innovative headphones that work on bone conduction technology are creating a frenzy. The headphones demoed at CES 2012 are designed to help people listen to music for long hours without any harm to the earbuds. Well, the headphones transmit sound through the listener’s cheekbones without blowing up eardrums like the traditional earphones. AfterShokz has put on display three models of its ear-free headsets at CES.

AfterShokz developed the famous bone conduction technology for military purposes initially. But the company has now built consumer headphones that bypass eardrums while letting people enjoy music privately. Of course, the risk of eventual hear loss with the profuse use of earphones gets simply eliminated here thanks to the ear bone conduction technology.

Different from conventional headphones, AfterShokz’s headphone sits outside the ears to transmit sound through bone conduction. Well, it passes on the sound through the listener’s cheekbones, completely bypassing eardrums, thus thwarting chances for all hearing issues. This is what Bruce Borenstein, the president of Aftershocks, has to say about the product.

We have taken that technology and built it into consumer-friendly headphones that active adults, business travelers and gamers will benefit from, both in the short and long term.

Indeed, people can now enjoy their favorite songs and make calls in a more comfortable and safer way. AfterShokz addresses different types of customers with its three models of bone conduction based headphones, namely AfterShokz Sport, AfterShokz Mobile and AfterShokz Game.

AfterShokz Sport is meant for joggers, skiers, bike riders, hikers and other vibrant customers. They can stay connected with their surroundings even while listening to music from a portable media player or a phone. They can listen to the sound of oncoming traffic, horns and any other sounds in the surrounding areas.

AfterShokz Mobile is specially designed to use along with phones. This headset features an extra advantage of an in-line microphone. So incoming calls automatically interrupt music and activate the microphone helping people answer the calls. AfterShokz Game is a special model for hardcore gamers and those who make communications through Skype or other VoIP systems. The headset can provide them a unique and convenient audio experience.

All three models of AfterShokz headphones are lightweight and water resistant. Moreover, the Sport and Mobile versions feature 3.5mm connector to hook up with any models of smartphone and music players such as iPhone, iPod, iPads and Android devices. Meanwhile, the Game version features a USB connector and an extended 9-foot cord for flexible gaming experience.

Only the Sport edition is available for grabs now. AfterShokz sells the Sport for a price of $59.95. The company will soon bring the Game and Mobile versions late this month for a price of $69.95. Petra and Barnes & Noble.com will sell the AfterShokz products.
